My guest will be Dr. Ken Nye, Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Southern Maine. Dr. Nye has taught and served as a secondary principal in Rumford and Yarmouth for 40 years. He did undergraduate work at Colby, and received his doctorate from Northwestern University. Dr. Nye's views on public education are refreshing and challenging. They are also controversial. We'll be discussing grades, standardized testing, evaluations, comparisons between US and and foreign students. While US students may not do as well on standardized tests, we do much better in the real world of invention, innovation, and problem solving. We'll not only look at the origins of public education in the US, but its evolution where we think it should be going in the future. Our listeners will discover a few hands-on, innovative approaches to experiential learning that are blossoming here in the Portland area. Our viewers can now email us directly to the studio, or call in to express their views.
