Headlines From The Nation's Press Each week we open the show with some of the most glaring and reoccurring stories chronicling the ugliness surrounding youth sports organized by adults; issues pertaining to our children's health and education. These headlines clap like thunder across the country signaling a warning to parents, coaches, administrators, lawmakers, and community stakeholders that widespread change is imperative. My good friend, and frequent guest on the show, Professor Doug Abrams of the College of Law at the University of Missouri, will add you to his daily mailing list of these stories. Simply email Doug and ask him to add your name to the list. The Main(e) Event
My guests will be Zach Juliano, the Outstanding Player in Class B West, and a member of the Cape Elizabeth state championship hockey team; and high school hockey coaches, Norm Gagne from Lewiston, Bart Keinath from S. Portland, Paul Evans from Portland, and Jason Tremblay from Cape Elizabeth. We'll get their thoughts on players leaving their high school teams to play junior hockey, and the chances of a Maine schoolboy receiving a Division I scholarship. We'll also discuss the level of competition in Maine in both Class A and Class B, and what the role of high school hockey is and should be in the high school experience. We had to pre-record Zach Juliano's interview because he is trying out for the Manchester Monarchs Junior Hockey team in Manchester this weekend. This high school senior and hockey standout wouldn't have traded his high school experience for anything. But, he is hoping to play Junior Hockey for a year or two in hopes of attracting the attention of a Division I school. The Coaches Corner I'll have some helpful hints for first-time and veteran coaches about what is really important. Regis' Rant Depends on my mood! There's lots to rant about parents' involvement in the games their children play. Just might rant on "giving the games back to the kids." The Parent Trap More on the "Parent Trap" of youth sports and how to be aware of it and how to protect yourself from becoming ensnared.
