High School sports have changed dramatically over the past thirty years. Some of it has been good, but some of it has been bad for the kids and bad for the schools.

Keith Weathersbie has seen it all. A 1963 graduate of Cape Elizabeth H.S., he is in his 39th year at the Cape, his 19th as Athletic Director, and 30th year as a Physics teacher. He has coached baseball, basketball, track adn cross country.

Kevin Woodhouse

We will not only be discussing athletic injuries, but age-appropriate sports, activities, and drills for children; advice for parents and coaches about preventing injuries; common injuries by sport; Tommy John surgery for Little Leaguers; when surgery is required, what is involved; long-term effects of childhood injuries; injuries for older athletes; and steroids.

Are swimmers, gymnasts, skiers, runners, dancers, and cheerleaders susceptible to serious injuries? What should children and parents be cautious about, and at what ages should children take up these activities?

Dr. Doug and Dr. Bill will be regular guests on the show to answer your questions and to help all of us understand how to make sport a safe and healthy activity for our children.

We invite our listeners to call in and share their views.

Listeners can take part in the show by calling 207-775-2217 or 1-866-811-9509.
