High School sports have changed dramatically over the past thirty years. Some of it has been good, but some of it has been bad for the kids and bad for the schools.

Keith Weathersbie has seen it all. A 1963 graduate of Cape Elizabeth H.S., he is in his 39th year at the Cape, his 19th as Athletic Director, and 30th year as a Physics teacher. He has coached baseball, basketball, track and cross country.

Kevin Woodhouse has been Athletic Director at S. Portland High School for three years. Prior to that he has been an assistant AD and AD for 18 years at both public and private schools. He has coached soccer, track, tennis, basketball, Nordic skiing, and football. He is also a math teacher.

We will be discussing how the roles of AD and coach have changed over the years and what has brought about the changes. We'll talk about how difficult it is to get classroom teachers to coach; reduction in athletic budgets; pay-to-play policies; booster clubs and parental involvement; the pressure to win; and the relationship between athletics and academics.

We'll also talk about sportsmanship; zero tolerance for abusive behavior; violence at high school sporting events; protection for officials; athlete contracts; no-pass-no play policies, and more.

Keith, Kevin, and other  local area athletic directors and coaches will be regular guests on the show discussing these and other issues involving high school athletics.

We invite our listeners to call in and share their views.

Listeners can take part in the show by calling 207-775-2217 or 1-866-811-9509.
