The Center For Kids FIRST In Sports, Health, and Education works primarily with school communities at the district and local levels. This strategic decision was made because we believe that schools are the “center” of most communities serving to unite students, teachers, coaches, administrators, parents, and other community stakeholders.

We chose this approach because of two underlying reasons: it is the most efficient way for us to reach our “audience,” and schools provide the best opportunity for changing the culture.

This approach is much more efficient than advertising, publishing books, or conducting conferences. When a school engages our services, it is relatively easy for it to convene all of the major stakeholders. We have also found that school administrators are nearly unanimous in the belief that change in how we administer athletics must occur.

In terms of cultural change, it begins when an educational institution becomes a “learning community” focused on aligning the program goals and objectives of athletics and physical education with the social and educational mission of the school. This approach helps to create a common vision, language everyone understands, and a sense of “all being in it together.” This in turn leads to ownership and buy-in so the changes and movement are sustained.

Finally, because schools simply cannot afford to purchase these services, even if they wished, we offer them for free. The Center For Kids FIRST In Sports, Health, and Education is a 501 (c) 3, tax exempt, non-profit organization that relies on contributions and grants.
